Cathedral is not all that deep, Eagles Nest is a short dive and you are only deep if you try to be, Diepolder is a super short dive and you can stay shallow unless you go into the very back, which only goes a short distance, and none of them went anywhere in any of these places. Exley and I added to the deep end of Eagles on gas in one dive after the whole lot of strokes jerked off in there for years, Gavin and I added to the deep end of Diepolder and finished it off in one 20 minute dive on gas after the strokes held massive "projects" there and did nothing, same for Wakulla, same for everywhere else. Sally Ward was another great example - they dove that place forevrer and Casey and I added 1000 feet to the downstrean on our first dive, while Casey , Gavin and I added a few thousand to the upstream on the first attempt, again directly following massive "projects" by the strrokes. We, of sourse, simply used the proper gas.

In most of Leon Sinks the same is true. Exley had a habit of bailing when those caves went deep because he knew he was not going to get anywhere on air at depth. We were able to add to and connect a lot of these places, usualy in one or two dives, using the right gas.

All the dives I did with Exley were done on gas, and of course all of the dives that Exley did with the WKPP were on gas. You also have to keep in mind that had Exley used gas and abserved Rule Number One, there would probably not have been anything left for the rest of us to explore, and if Exley had not killed himself diving air with a stroke he would have been in on all of our explorations that occured since his death. You also have to keep in mind that the rest of the old timers quit doing anything 19 years ago.

Currently, WKPP divers are at 17,000 feet in Cathedral ( rarely clear enough to dive), 16,000 in Chips ( apparently ends) and looking at wide open cave in Leon Sinks ( again rarely clear enough to dive). 

One more item is that quite a few old timers died diving these places on air, and what you are asying is completely ture about the CNS. If these guys had done long enough dives in some of these places, more of them would have died. The old timers who did long air dives at intermediate depths ( let's call that depths and times that require a good bit of decompression) are showing up wiht bone necrossis and other issues.
