FWIW.
>From your description of the undergarments current condition, I would deduce
from simple overuse it is now pretty much useless for anything but future
recreational diving, due to excessive fibre compression resulting from sweat
and body oil.
A DUI 400 G typically lasts around 100 dives before their life starts
tapering off and they start loosing their ability to hold gas.which is why
it is an idea to have several undergarmets, rotating them accordingly for
more/lesser demanding diving. Use the newest undergarments for serious dives
where a suit flood can mean the diferrence literally between getting
seriously bent, or walking away relatively untouched.
A new undergarment is stiff as a board and VERY bulky/light, decomposing
undergarments become very floppy and disproportionately heavy.
As you are aware DUI400G works in protecting the diver from severe
decompression illness in the event of a suit flood where the undergarment is
in peak condition and used in conjunction with Argon, where the fibers
retain the suit gas and hold the insulation directly against the skin, which
is why we don't use poly-props or any other b/s to "prolong the suit life",
as they defeat the purpose of using the system in the first place in the
event of a suit flood.
Remember we are conditioning our response for worst case scenarios with
large decompression obligations in possibly extremely cold water, so bear
this in mind if you have an aversion to "shelling out" to do it right as DUI
400 G is a usable commodity, much like a condom catheter they get the job
done and get biffed once they are no longer usefull.
As for garment care, my advice is to wash them as little as possible but it
is imperative to air the undergarment and booties thoroughly immediately
after diving. (don't leave it in the bag overnight)
When you do need to wash the suit the DUI advice is all good regarding
bacterial cleansing, however.
When it comes to soap I have found simple green works best with a triple
rinse cycle and flat air dry (laying over the washing line)
The reason they don't want it hung out normally is Thinsulate fibre
stretch/compaction from gravity/water weight .
As a last thought get your undergarments cavecut as it makes a huge
difference. DUI refuse to taper the lower legs at the factory (god only
knows why) so be prepared to take them to a local seamstress for an
aftermarket adjustment.
Once you get one of these you will be very happy.better make it three *G*

Thanks Svein.
I also like/prefer to get comments from the real world because DUI
and 'best practice' are not always guaranteed to go together .. to
whit "Use your dry-suit for primary buoyancy" etc.
safe diving
